NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

LANGUAGE Papers should be in English. Additional abstracts in other languages are encouraged.

PAPERS and Research Notes Full papers should be of general interest to an international readership; they should be set in a wide context and include general discussion and conclusions applicable to that context. Results of specific research trials of limited  interest outside their subject or region should be written as shorter Research Notes.

SUBMISSION Papers should be sent to the Editor as an email attachment. The maximum length, excluding title page and abstract is 6,000 words. The numbers of tables and figures should be kept as low as possible. Text of word processed manuscripts should not be right justified. Authors with longer papers should consult the Editor before submission. Short papers, letters, conference papers and reports are also welcome. Authors should retain complete copies of papers submitted,as the Editor and Publisher cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss of manuscripts.
Submission implies that it is an original work not published or submitted for publication elsewhere and that, on acceptance, the copyright is transferred to the publisher.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION Authors should consult recent issues to discern the preferred style. Pages should be numbered consecutively and assembled in the order of: Title page with a concise, informative full title and a short running title – max. 50 characters; names, affiliation and addresses of authors, and an indication of the author to whom correspondence should be addressed (including email address and FAX number where possible). Abstract a concise summary of 100–150 words and 7–10 key words; key words should exclude words already in the title. Main Text structured but without excessive use of sub-headings. SI units should be used throughout. References should begin on a separate page. Tables should not be embedded in the text but collected at the end, or in a separate file, each on a separate page – with numbered captions supplied separately. The chosen position for each figure and table should be indicated in the text. Figures, including photographs, should be at least 300 dpi; in greyscale, without colour and saved as EPS, PDF, TIFF or JPEG; with detail to be of a size that will still be legible when reduced to fit the printed area. The publisher reserves the right to reject unsuitable figures.

REFERENCES Only published references, or those accepted for publication, should be cited, using the following style:

NOMENCLATURE All species should be identified by their scientific names in italics ( or underlined) and taxonomic authority, and when their common or local name is first used.

ACCEPTANCE of a paper will be conditional on the implementation by the authors of referees’ and Editor’s comments.

PROOFS Proofs in the form of a pdf will be sent to the author nominated for correspondence and should be returned to the Editor as soon as possible, with the requested corrections. The cost of alterations in excess of 10% of the composition will be charged to the author. The Editor reserves the right to publish a paper without the author’s corrections in case of undue delay in returning proofs.

COPYRIGHT The author must obtain permission to reproduce or quote from published work; Submission of a paper to the journal implies that the copyright in that paper is transferred to the Publisher.

A PDF of the published paper is supplied free of charge for personal benefit only of the author/s.
