NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS LANGUAGE Papers should be in English. Additional abstracts in other languages are encouraged. PAPERS and Research Notes Full papers should be of general interest to an international readership; they should be set in a wide context and include general discussion and conclusions applicable to that context. Results of specific research trials of limited interest outside their subject or region should be written as shorter Research Notes. SUBMISSION Where possible, copies should be sent to the Editor by email, or on 3 ˝” 44 MB diskette (DOS compatible). Otherwise submission by paper (3 copies) is acceptable. Papers should be typed double spacing on one side of each sheet. Text of word processed manuscripts should not be right justified. The maximum length, excluding title page and abstract is 6,000 words ( 20 pages of A4 or 21 pages of Letter size.) Authors with longer papers should consult the Editor before submission. Short papers, letters and conference papers and reports are also welcome. Authors should retain complete copies of papers submitted, as the Editor and Publisher cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss of manuscripts. Submission implies that it is an original work not published or submitted for publication elsewhere and that, on acceptance, the copyright is transferred to the publisher. MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION Authors should consult recent issues to discern the preferred style. Pages should be numbered consecutively and assembled in the order of : Title page with a concise, informative full title ( not using capitals throughout) and a short running title – max. 50 characters; names, affiliation and addresses of authors, and an indication of the author to whom correspondence should be addressed (including email addresses and FAX numbers where possible.) Abstract a concise summary of 100-150 words and 7 – 10 key words. Main Text structured but without excessive use of sub-headings. References beginning on a separate page ( see below). Tables each on a separate page with numbered captions, each table on a separate page. Captions for figures and tables numbered accordingly. SI units should be used throughout. Words to be printed in italics shown as such or underlined in typed documents. The chosen position for each figure and table should be indicated in the margin. FIGURES AND PHOTOGRAPHS figures should be of a high standard and preferably twice the final size. Each Figure should be clearly numbered on the reverse, must be unfolded, unmounted and include all necessary lettering. Photographs should be black and white prints, lightly identified on the back. Coloured prints as a source of black and white figures should be submitrted only with the cobnsent of the Editor. The original figures and photographs and two sets of photocopies are required. The publisher reserves the right to reject unsuitable figures and photographs. REFERENCES only published references, or those accepted for publication should be cited, using the following style: Ahuja L.D. 1980. Grass production under the Khejri tree. Citations in the text should be inchronological order, in the form (Chaktraverty and Chand 1975, Ahuja1980, Jindal et al. 1985). Unpublished information should be referred to as ( S.K. Jindal, pers. Obs.), (S.K. Jindal, pers. Comm.) FOOTNOTES should be numbered consecutively and appended to the manuscript. NOMENCLATURE All species should be identified by their scientific names and taxanomic authority in italics ( or underlined) and when their common or local name is first used. ACCEPTANCE of a paper will be conditional on the implementation by the authors of referees’ and Editor’s comments. To speed publication, authors are encouraged to use email, or submit amended papers on diskette. PROOFS Page proofs will normally be sent to the author nominated for correspondence and should be returned to the Editor as soon as possible. Corrections may be submitted to the Editor by email. The cost of alterations in excess of 10% of the composition will be charged to the author. The Editor reserves the right to publish a paper without the author’s corrections in case of undue delay in returning proofs. COPYRIGHT The author must obtain permission to reproduce or quote from published work; Submission of a paper to the journal implies that the copyright in that paper is transferred to the Publisher. OFFPRINTS twenty offprints of the published paper are supplied free of charge; additional offprints may be obtained using the order form returned with the corrected proofs. |
